Meet Gigi & Bloom, The Story Behind the Brand

From Designer Knitwear to Petite Dog Apparel

Gigi & Bloom began naturally from my work as a knitwear designer using Tasmanian superfine merino wool.  As I designed and created clothing for women, my two small dogs, Gigi the toy poodle and Bloom the Maltese, were always nearby watching each design come to life.  A few seasons ago I imagined how great it would be to make similar knits for them too, using the same purity, and craftsmanship as my womenswear.

Why Tasmanian Wool Matters to Us

All our dog jumpers are made from 100% superfine Merino wool sourced from White Gum Wool in the Tasmanian Midlands. This farm is led by Nan Bray and she is known for her ethical approach where each sheep lives out their full natural lives in harmony with the land. Nan is also known for her regenerative approach to farming and biodiversity is protected at every step, something that means so much to us at Gigi & Bloom.

Honouring People and Process

During the creation of a Gigi & Bloom knit, our way of being mindful of every part of the process is called Soft Provenance. This means we honour the story of where each fibre comes from and the care that goes into it. We also care about how each knit is made and where.

Made Entirely in Tasmania

Every Gigi & Bloom knit is designed, sourced, and made right here on our island home. Our knits are handcrafted by professional artisans like our head knitter Marilyn who lives in northern Tasmania. It’s their decades of experience that ensures each piece is finished to the highest standard.  This attention to detail means that every sweater you choose is not just made for your small dog, it’s made with local skill, pride, and an unbroken chain of provenance.

Our Colours and Style

Inspired by Tasmania’s landscapes, our launch collection of handcrafted knits come in five colours, Peachberry, Fairywren, Quarrystone, Hawthorn, and Natural. These colours represent that Tasmanian landscape as well as it’s flora and fauna. Each knit is also designed for timeless style, with the option to add a Bloomette wool flower for extra personality.  It’s not only the style but the pure comfort that makes our sweaters the most beautiful addition to your dog’s wardrobe.

Why We Do What We Do

For us, dog apparel isn’t about dressing pets for novelty. It’s about creating lasting pieces that keep them comfortable and warm. These knits are a way to show them just how loved and cherished they are. A Gigi & Bloom dog jumper is made to be worn for many seasons. Such a special knit encourages care and the occasional repair because it will become a much loved favourite in your pup’s wardrobe. When they wear one, they will also carry the story of Tasmania’s wool. This story includes our local artisans, and the joy of something made slowly and well.
